What is Attraction Marketing?
Whether you’ve been doing a home business for a while or are just getting started, you’ve likely heard the term “Attraction Marketing.” Let’s talk about what this is.
- Definition from Wikipedia: “the use of marketing techniques specifically designed to teach the customer what you are doing, and how a service or product will benefit them well before they purchase it.”
- One of my mentors, Brian Fanale defines Attraction Marketing as the way you “attract interested prospects to you who already want the benefits of your product or service” (instead of pitching, chasing, convincing, or begging).
- I’ve also heard it called the #1 Law of Online Businesses
I think about a friend of mine in this business who kept talking about her products and services. All the time. (They were the best thing since sliced bread after all.) She was getting disillusioned because people were buying the products, even some of her own friends, but from other people.
Why was that? A seasoned entrepreneur shared with her just one tip, and her business turned around. My friend began promoting herself and the benefits she received from the product, but kept her product/service itself completely out of the discussion initially.
People will always buy products. Some people will even see the genius of this industry and want to jump on board. WHO these people choose to do business with depends on attraction marketing.

The way to attract prospects to you is simply to add value to the marketplace. Be that savvy marketer who addresses the biggest problems, pains, and concerns of your target market.
People are searching for solutions to many issues (weight loss problems, needing extra money to get out of debt, aging skin, how to avoid another failed attempt at starting a business). If you regularly address those issues and offer solutions, you WILL bring interested prospects to you. They will be curious how you can help them.

To illustrate this: imagine you are building a network marketing business to sell a product. A great target for you would be existing home business entrepreneurs or people looking to start a home business. Think of their problems, and you might list: trouble getting leads or not making enough money. So, offer them a solution for how to get leads and money.

All three parts are essential; you can’t skip any.
And the order is critical.
Building an audience is the first step. Top earners build their brand and list through their blog, Facebook, YouTube, and more.

- What do you know about Social Media?
- Are you building your own email list?
When we got started in this business we did so many things wrong. One thing we did right was blogging. We were building an audience. We were becoming an authority on the things we were blogging about. We were offering to solve the problems of our target audience and offering valuable content.
Building is the FIRST step and shouldn’t be overlooked.
Remember, your business IS your list of customers and prospects, and to build that you must build and brand YOU! That’s an ongoing process. We are continuing to build our brand with the things we’re learning.

Engaging your audience is done as you build relationships. Be sure to continually serve them with more and more value. Stay in touch with your audience. You don’t want them to forget you.
Talk with them. Find out their pain. Don’t worry! They will buy from you when they know, like, and trust you!
Selling to your audience is how you make money. A sale is simply a win-win exchange between parties who trust and respect each other. You need to not be afraid to ask for the sale.
A closed mouth can be likened to a store “after hours” or “closed for business.” Be sure to have conversations about your opportunity. Not everyone is going to say yes, but rejoice when they make a decision – either way! Even the no’s (that could be another blogpost all by itself)!
Attraction Marketing Do’s and Don’ts
- Don’t just pitch, pitch, pitch – that’s why 97% home business owners stay broke. There is a time and a place to share your product or service. For best results, wait until your prospect asks you about it. Make yourself so attractive that people come to you for their solution.
- Do build relationships! This is key, and that’s why attraction marketing is time consuming. You need to build your “know, like, and trust factor.”
Get to know people. Spend time and be present. Make them feel like they are the only one that matters at that moment.
- Do build your brand. Be recognized for the “you” you want to be.
- Don’t spam your prospects!
- Don’t lead with your MLM. You’ll have nothing for the 90% who say no.
- Don’t expect to get rich quick. Seek sustainable, long-term income.
Getting Started with Attraction Marketing
Just do it! Get started. There are people out there waiting to meet and get to know you. The important thing is to start.
Don’t be a statistic by focusing on product sales first. Nobody likes to be spammed and see all sorts of products being pitched in their Facebook feed. Don’t get me wrong, you can sell from day one, but FOCUS FIRST on YOU!
Follow the 3-part attraction marketing method above. And remember: All three parts are essential, and the order of B-E-S is crucial! (Don’t focus on selling before you’ve built the know, like, and trust factor.)
